Steps to A healthy,Frugal Roast Turkey Dinner

It has been my experience that shopping on a Tuesdays or Wednesdays saves hundreds of shopping dollars in a year. The major grocery chains usually run specials Saturdays and Sundays to draw you to their store and rid you of your Fridays pay check.
These specials do consists of many products through out the whole store. It is the meat and vegetables left behind after these sales are over that we want to purchase. These leftover piles are in corners of meat counters or stashed in the far corners of the raw vegetable sections of the store.

There is nothing wrong with these meat products except the due date is on the day you are in the store… which means you take it home and cook it that day or freeze it immediately.
The meat will have lovely little 2-3$ off stickers on them to make a faster sale to prevent throwing it out. The vegetables will be bagged up in bunches usually around a dollar a bag because there maybe a black spot on it so it is not perfect and they can’t sell it for full price.
Another great way to save is to use coupons that save you 40cents, 50cent or even a $1.00 dollar off.

You can clip these from your grocery store flyer’s, find them pinned to the shelves with the products you wish to buy or the best way is to download them off the Internet. You can save huge doing this as there are coupons for almost every thing and some products are even free samples coupons to give them a try.
The only product that doesn’t have coupons is fresh vegetables and fresh fruit but like I said look for the bags of slightly damages fruit and vegetables cut the bad spot off and use or freeze the rest.

At Christmas time of the year you can usually purchase a turkey for 99 cents a pound. A turkey for twelve dollars ( 99 cents a pound making it a twelve pound turkey), stuffed with fruit or dressing will feed a family of six people easily. For this price it would be a shame not to have a Christmas dinner.

Suzzycue roasted this turkey from frozen and in five hours had a meal of roasted turkey, dressing, roasted butternut squash, roasted beets with garlic and a drizzle of olive oil ,salt/pepper.

Cost per Plate for Thanksgiving or a Christmas Roast Turkey Feast?

You could say less than $3.00. WOW!

Frozen Butterball turkey with dressing -$13.95 divided by six equals $2.35

Butternut squash- $1.00

5 pounds of beets -$1.00

garlic was a gift from my Boss.
I love to take an onion and stick cloves into it with a few apples cut into quarters and stuff into the cavity of my turkey for a different delicious flavor that doesn’t dry the meat out at all. Also it helps to cook the turkey upside down in the roasting pan with the turkey breast on the bottom, this keeps the white meat juicy.
GIFTS: Money is tight for me this year more than last year so with gifts, I had to get a little creative, since I don’t knit. So, I shoveled my neighbors driveway. You can dog or cat sit for someone heading south for a vacation. Offer to do odd jobs of gardening in the spring, and walk your brother’s dog. I also paint houses inside and out and someone always needs some of that done. So don’t spend your hard earned cash on presents, keep that for paying your bills and use your talents for presents to enjoy an old fashioned Christmas.

Have a Good one!!!

I wanted to stop taking this drug and find ways to relieve my heartburn so I could improve my health naturally.

DIY For Your Health
Do you want to stop your heartburn without the use of drugs. Are you tired of the chalk tasting Tums or Rolaids?
This drug did work and Suzzycue was so desperate for relief she stayed on it for three years and also changed her diet. It was not easy as She had to eat something to find out if it hurt or not.
Acid Reflux Disease

There are two types of acid reflux: Supine Acid Reflux… causing symptoms at night.

Upright Acid Reflux… causes symptoms in the day.

HOW TO DEAL WITH THESE ISSUES

Anyone who has this condition as I do knows how painful and frustrating it can be.

So here are some of the things, I practiced to enjoy my day without so many anti-acid medications 🙂

NIGHT TIME

This was a quick fix for me, simply put blocks of, four- inch squares of wood made from two by fours under each leg of the front of your bed. This raises your head up so the acid does not come into your throat by lying down.

DAY TIME

We know food is a big factor with this condition. Stay away from fatty foods, creamy foods, spicy foods, and fried foods. Can we still have some taste to our foods? Can we still have some fun?

These small changes will help

Suzzycue still enjoys her morning coffee, a big no, no with Acid Reflux but if you make it the way you enjoy it… it can be very painful. The trick is to put ice in it. The ice stops the pain, She does not know how but, can enjoy her morning coffee. Now if ice does not work for you, have a hot cup of lemon water. It will wake you up like coffee with no acid hurting at all. The fisherman in Florida on their fishing boats, would cut holes in lemons, and suck the juice out of them to prevent seasickness. Lemons calm the acid with acid… who knew.

Suzzycue likes to eat eggs once in awhile but every time she does… she suffers. The trick to eggs is to remove the yolk, fry up the egg whites and no problem at all. Why? The yolks are where the fat is and fat hurts.

In addition, you will know that onions are a big pain, but we love our fried onions. Food is bland without onions. To enjoy your onions… fry them up in a pan of olive oil until their nice and crispy … then throw them out. Yes, I know, I am crying too but the oil has a great onion flavor you can rub onto meats and use it to shallow fry a steak… Delicious!

If you have heart burn and you have nothing to treat it with, you can drink a cup of hot water. This will ease the pain. Bananas is another heartburn food to ease the pain and includes potassium, which we all need to have. Lemons can also ease the pain of heartburn and calm you stomach. Using acid, to fix acid, really works. Try It.

Hope this helps with your heartburn. Suzzycue also does deep breathing exercises. She takes in oxygen threw her nose in deep breaths breathing from her diaphragm, making sure her stomach goes out on the inhale and in as far as she can on the exhale. This strengthens her diaphragm to help keep her esophagus closed to stop the acid coming up her throat. This exercise does work.

We all love takeout pizza 🙂 You can make it yourself at home and have the same take out flavor for half the cost. This pizza was made with a pita. I covered the bottom of the pita with olive oil before I laid it on the oven rack. This will make it crispy and delicious.) Then I put the toppings on. This is a good way to clean out the leftovers in the fridge.

I use any spaghetti sauce that I have in the cupboard, Mozzarella cheese in chunks (I drop around the pizza)spinach, fresh tomato slices, sliced mushrooms, onions . Then sprinkle a little more olive oil on the top. That is the trick to fabulous pizza. Put the rack and pizza in the oven on the third rack and bake for 10 minutes . When the cheese is melted and the bottom has browned up, take it out, wait to slice it( a few minutes). Then enjoy 🙂

This pizza is Frugal and a fun way to spice up your pizza night with your kids. You can let them make their own any way they want. If you would like to see my other Frugal recipes they are listed here. Enjoy !

Cork Craft Bird House and Pig Roast

Do you wish to build your own Wine bottle cork birdhouse? It is so easy.

Hi… Have you been keeping cool like I have with glasses of wine over ice? This is the hottest summer, breaking records from way back.

I went to my Brother’s Retirement Pig Roast Saturday , it rained buckets of water on us. We all had a great time under the tents. We got soaking wet, when someone reached up and pushed under the tent, to empty the roof of water, so the tent wouldn’t break. We all laughed , the kids played in the mud, making mud pies bringing back my good childhood memories. It was fun to see the kids play in it.

Celebrations like this, are a great way to bring Family and Friends together with good music, good food and the rain only made it more fabulous, bringing everyone together under the tents to celebrate my Brother’s accomplishment of 34 years of teaching 🙂 It was a Blast

So… Now the Summer Parties are over and we have saved those special corks overflowing our kitchen drawers. What do we do with them. Here are a few DIY Cork Craft Projects that I have used my corks to build. If you want to build these projects but don’t have corks … You can buy them on Amazon or at your local wine making store really cheap. The birds will love you for it:)

Frugal Dinners for the Holidays

By August 5, 2016 Frugal saving Money Tips

My Friend Marylou loved to decorate for every season and every Holiday of the year 🙂 Mums were her favorite flowers for the fall and, are, an inexpensive way to bring color into your Thanksgiving celebrations.

Happy Thanksgiving Canada 🙂 Thanksgiving is a celebration of the abundance of the Harvest. Even though there are tough times in Canada’s economy… I would like everyone of us to celebrate with a good Thanksgiving dinner with friends and family this year 🙂

You can have a good Thanksgiving dinner for under twenty dollars. Shopping in the Fall of the year is fun. There are bags of carrots, potatoes, and beets for $2.00 a bag, The utility turkeys are on for .98 cents a pound. (utility turkeys do have some parts missing. There could be a missing wing or leg but flip a coin to see who wins the remaining leg and make fun from it). I personally have cooked many of these turkeys and they taste as good as a butterball any day of the week.

One trick I use when roasting turkeys is to smother olive oil all over the top to get that roasted brown crispy skin. The rule is: ten pounds( a ten dollar turkey) will roast beautifully at 350 degree oven for 2 1/2 hours then shut the oven off and let it sit in the oven for the last 30 minutes. I always put all my veggies in the roasting pan at the same time as the turkey and roast them altogether.

Enjoy Your Thanksgiving Dinner with family and friends. Appreciate all your blessings that you received this year. Thanks for reading and I would love to read your comments or your tips on making your Thanksgiving dinner great. Bye for now 🙂

Why Use Herbs Instead of Salt

By August 3, 2016 quick frugal tips for food

Fresh herbs can pop your taste buds, so you enjoy your food to it’s fullest, better than adding salt to it. The photo above is fresh Basil,Thyme,a Garlic Spear, and Rosemary. If you have to use dried herbs then rub them together in the palm of your hands to bring out their true aromas before using them. Using herbs is also a better way to flavor your food than salt if you have high blood pressure and need to stay away from salt.
Salt is best used to enhance flavors of food than to sprinkle on for a salt flavor. For example a tablespoon of salt can blend the flavors together in soups and stews. Salt I also use to bring out the flavor of fruits such as grapefruits and apple slices. Just a sprinkle on the top will make it taste awesome. Give this a try.
Herbs such as Basil pairs well in tomato salads. Rosemary is great on fish and meats.Thyme brings out the flavor of soups and stews with some salt.

Frugal Fall Planter Decorating Tip

By July 28, 2016 Frugal Decorating Ideas

This photo and awesome but very frugal decorating trick to liven up your outdoor cast-iron planters comes from my sister-in-law Lillian. As you can tell from this planter Lillian has exquisite taste and loves to decorate. Her home really is a showcase from the moment you walk in the front door until you walk out the back, most of the year. Then the Grand Kids come.

In the summer time, this cast-iron planter hosted many beautiful annual flowering plants. Then in the fall, most of this these planters are empty and either have dirt in them or those green sponge plant holders from flower shops. Here Lillian’s frugal genius is to use cuttings from her own backyard and curl wires around the bottom of them ,to stick into that green sponge, to hold them up.

Other people, I have seen, stick the branches straight into the dirt, to make these beautiful evergreen bouquets. You can add anything to these bouquets, colorful decorations, flowers, and ribbons to make them your own Christmas creation. These bouquets will greet your family and guests with an evergreen scent of a homey Christmas time to come.

Please share your Frugal Christmas Tips in the comments below. Thank you all for reading and Have a Merry Christmas Everyone 🙂

Cooler Corn

Cooler corn is just that. You take your Coleman cooler from the garage and clean it out. Then put into it a dozen corn cobs that have been cleaned. Pour over it two kettles of hot water and close the lid. Then Nothing. Let sit closed for 30 minutes and it is done perfect and it will not cook past perfection. I love this way to cook corn.

We owned a campground on Lake Huron for twenty-one years and I learned all kinds of camping tips from the campers that camped with us. I really miss it a lot.

Have you ever wanted to learn to cook with pie irons on the fire. Give these recipes a try. Happy Camping 🙂

Photo and instructions to build this Willow bent Chair are by Sharon Vile (Blueheron)

I saw this on Hubpages and wanted to share it with my readers. This is a well constructed chair made of Willow branches found by the side of the road or given to Sharon from her friends.

This is the second chair, she has built and it would look great on any body’s porch or in a garden focal point .The willow bent chair would blend in with your landscape.

I love the idea that, she builds it from , found objects. People don’t pick up sticks,or play with sticks anymore, like we did as kids. I think ,Sharon , has her focus back to Nature, to be able to build this project from Willow sticks. Thanks for letting me share. This is a project, I could build, to put on my balcony in the spring. I’m sure there are lots of Willow branches down by the river in my hometown of Stratford. The willow trees that line the banks of Victoria Lake ( Avon River as I know it) are at least one hundred years old. They are beautiful.
